Salary range: $35,159.66 to $36,951.14 annually

What you will be doing…

With an emphasis on energy and sustainability, you will be responsible for ensuring that the general building custodial duties are carried out on a continual evening shift according to established Nova Scotia Community College standards and guidelines. You will be responsible for the day-to-day direction and oversight of all duties applicable to facilities staff; perform periodic inspections; participate in snow removal if required and perform cleaning and maintenance of the campus. You will also maintain a customer service-orientated relationship with the users of the facilities and perform other tasks as assigned by the Facilities Manager or designate.

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a high school diploma or recognized equivalent (GED) or willingness to attain a high school diploma or GED within the probationary period.

  • Training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations would be considered an asset, as would Standard First Aid and CPR. Ladder training and/or Fall Protection training would also be considered an asset.

  • You have a minimum of two years’ recent and related experience as a cleaner (including the operation of waxing and polishing machines and automatic scrubbers) with a minimum of two years' recent and progressive supervisory experience.

  • Specific experience in inventory, ordering custodial supplies, light maintenance and security will be considered an asset.

  • Relevant cleaning experience in a large commercial or educational facility dealing with daily cleaning requirements and scheduling staff and their concerns would be considered an asset.

  • Occupational experience that includes working in one or more of the trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical) would be considered an asset.

  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, Megamation and Office 365

  • You have demonstrated experience providing soft and hard floor care , washroom sanitation and operation of all major cleaning equipment , light maintenance duties , team building activities such as OH&S and tool box meetings, preventative and/or scheduled)on cleaning equipment

  • You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to campus events, such as open house, skills and community events (e.g. coordinating services, work, events, logistics, etc.)

  • You are dedicated to life-long learning , attending industry workshops , and keeping up with new cleaning methods.

  • You show a strong commitment to community involvement.

  • You are able to perform all physical duties of the job as required for the operation and maintenance of the facilities and operation of small hand tools and shop equipment.

  • Possession of a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License is a bona fide relevant occupational requirement for this position.
