What you’ll be doing…

You will perform a full range of routine and special cleaning duties associated with maintaining the Ivany Campus in a safe and hygienic condition. These duties may include, but are not limited to dusting, sweeping, cleaning washrooms, striping and waxing floors, etc. You may also perform routine painting, snow removal, lawn care duties and room rental setups.

Maintaining a clear, welcoming environment is key to this position and you will be required to provide a clean and safe working environment. As part of cleaning duties, you will assist and respond to internal customer requests for assistance, inquiries, and/or other related requests; and respond to emergency situations as required to ensure the safety of students and staff.

You have:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or recognized equivalent (GED) or willingness to attain Grade 12 or GED within the probationary period.

  • Training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.

  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License.

Minimum experience:

  • A minimum of one years’ experience as a cleaner (including the operation of waxing and polishing machines and automatic scrubbers), preferably in a large post-secondary or commercial setting

  • Experience using machines for floor stripping and re-waxing floors, and carpet cleaning,

  • Experience maintaining a variety of logs, forms, and written communications of activities within assigned area of responsibility.

  • Must be knowledgeable and demonstrate safe work practices such as preventing trip hazards (cord use on vacuums and floor strippers), proper warning of wet or waxed floors, etc.

  • Related experience working in one or more of the trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical) would be considered an asset.

  • Day-to-day working knowledge of computers including familiarity with Microsoft Outlook email.

  • General maintenance experience in areas such as, changing bulbs, painting and small repairs would be considered an asset.

  • Experience with Building Environmental Systems would be considered an asset.

Skills and abilities

  • Enjoys working in a team environment, but can also function independently.

  • Standard First Aid, CPR preferred.

  • Ability to perform all physical duties of the job as required for operating and maintaining the campus.
