Term Full-Time Position: Commencing approximately November 28, 2017 and ending approximately May 4, 2018.

Salary range: $40,838 to $47,960 annually

What you’ll be doing…

This position reports to the Academic Chair and may receive daily functional guidance from the faculty members in the assigned programs. The Program Assistant:

  • assists with the procurement and storage of program equipment/supplies;

  • oversees equipment maintenance;

  • assists faculty with the development and implementation of projects/events;

  • coordinates the operation of the dining room;

  • maintain databases (dining room, events);

  • supports the department with the academic aspects of capital projects;

  • assists with the operation of the Baking and Pastry Art Retail area;

  • may be required to work evenings and weekends where applicable.

You have:

Minimum qualifications:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a relevant post-secondary diploma in Tourism Hospitality or a Cook/Baker Certificate of Qualification with Red Seal endorsement

  • In addition, you possess training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations as well as Standard First Aid, CPR and a Food Handlers Course or you have a willingness to obtain within the first year

  • A minimum of 5 years of recent and related occupational experience (including supervisory experience)

  • Depth of knowledge and experience in a variety of tourism industry (food service industry, wine industry background, supervisory role) is considered an important asset.

  • Knowledge of procurement/inventory management processes is an asset.

  • Experience using POS system – specifically Aloha

  • You are highly organized and customer-service focused.

  • You are innovative, committed to life-long learning and demonstrate a commitment to community involvement.

  • You have good problem solving skills along with an ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • You possess skills working with a variety of software packages including Microsoft Office.

  • You possess training in WHMIS, NS Occupational Health and Safety regulations, Standard First Aid, CPR and discipline relevant safety training or willingness to obtain within the first year.
