What you’ll be doing…

You will perform a full range of routine and special cleaning duties associated with maintaining the Akerley Campus in a safe and hygienic condition. You may also perform routine painting, snow removal, lawn care duties and room rental setups. The hours of work will range from 8:00 am until 3:30pm or from 2:30 pm until 10:00pm Monday to Friday but may vary, depending on the needs of the campus.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or recognized equivalent (GED) or willingness to attain Grade 12 or GED within the probationary period.

  • Training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.

  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License. 

Minimum experience:

  • A minimum of one year experience as a cleaner (including the operation of waxing and polishing machines and automatic scrubbers).

  • Related experience working in one or more of the trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical) would be considered an asset. 

  • Day-to-day working knowledge of computers including familiarity with Microsoft Outlook email.  

  • General maintenance experience in areas such as, changing bulbs, painting and small repairs would be considered an asset. 

  • Experience with Building Environmental Systems would be considered an asset.

Skills and abilities

  • Standard First Aid, CPR preferred.

  • Ability to perform all physical duties of the job as required for operating and maintaining the campus. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence with a high level of personal pride in your work. 

  • Committed to life-long learning demonstrating a willingness to learn new skills and take appropriate courses as offered. 

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to interpret policies and procedures accurately with appropriate oral and written communication skills in addition to interpersonal skills to provide routine information and answer inquiries.
