Business Development Officer - Town of Amherst, Nova Scotia
Amherst, Nova Scotia, is a beautiful, historic town of 9,500 people located in the geographic centre of the Maritime Provinces. With all major transportation links nearby, it is the home for many successful small businesses and industries of all sizes including several world-class international manufacturing, industrial and high-tech companies.
They are now seeking a Business Development Officer to provide service and support to businesses looking to expand, relocate or establish in Amherst.
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, you will develop the demographic and business investment profile of Amherst and make recommendations on specific steps the Town can undertake to improve key sectors. Working within the goals of the One Nova Scotia report Now or Never – A Call to Action For Nova Scotians, you will recommend strategies to address the demographic challenges facing Amherst and build partnerships with private sector, government, and academic stakeholders that support entrepreneurship and business growth in the community.
You will also oversee the marketing and operations of the Community Credit Union Business Innovation Centre, a facility owned by the Town to serve as a hub for business and community groups. And, lastly, you will provide support to existing businesses by maintaining regular contact with them to identify ways to improve the local business climate.
As the ideal candidate, you must have appropriate academic credentials in business, economics or public administration, coupled with several years’ experience in business development, economic development, or business. You have a solid track record working with stakeholder groups such as the business community, elected officials, other levels of government, staff, and the community at large.
You are familiar with the various challenges facing rural communities and you have expertise in strategic planning, budgeting, policy development, and project management. Personally, you possess well-developed qualities including relationship building, communication, teamwork, planning, and, most important, integrity.
