What you’ll be doing…

This position is responsible for identifying, coordinating and conducting institutional research for internal and external stakeholders of NSCC. Under the general direction of the Manager, Institutional Research, this position will lead reporting and analysis initiatives and projects that advance the strategic direction of the department and College; conduct and coordinate the analysis, collection and distribution of key institutional datasets in PeoplesSoft and Cognos; identify and coordinate the development and dissemination of statistical and analytical research to support strategic decision making and planning; and lead environmental scanning and trend research to inform planning processes and decisions.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Education, Social Sciences, or another relevant discipline with an analytical focus.

Minimum experience:

  • At least three years direct experience in delivering meaningful, timely and accurate reporting using large data sets, and conducting analyses of data to aid in key decision-making processes.

  • Experience with social / educational research methods and statistical analysis using a variety of research tools such as SPSS, Cognos.

  • Experience with PeopleSoft (Student Administration) and SPSS Modeller would be an asset.

Minimum skills and ability:

  • Knowledge of current trends in evaluating the student experience and learning centered practices in community college education.

  • Ability to analyze and assess technical and operational data and generate reports using databases, knowledge of standard statistical methods, and skills in collecting, analyzing, verifying, and manipulating research data.

  • Knowledge of and experience with survey methodology.

  • Proficient in windows-based computer applications including all Microsoft Office applications and Outlook, advanced Excel skills preferred

  • Effective writing and presentation skills and the ability to convey technical and statistical information to a non-technical audience.

  • Superb presentation, communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a complex college environment with the ability to build and sustain working relationship with key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills in planning, executing and completing tasks.

  • Ability to ensure accuracy of work, take initiative, exercise sound judgement, and work independently to meet deadlines.
