John Ross & Sons is currently seeking a Labour Supervisor to join our team in Chain Lake, Halifax, Nova Scotia. As the largest scrap metal recycling facility in Atlantic Canada, we seek a hard-working, dedicated, and safety minded individual to join our team.
JOB DESCRIPTION_____________________________________________________________
The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and promoting an accident-free and environmentally compliant workplace and will report directly to the Owners and Chief Operation Officer.
Experience working with heavy equipment including but not limited to: excavators, loaders, forklifts, bobcats, and other production related equipment.
Other essential job functions include:
Works well with department staff, organizational wide staff, vendor/suppliers, and maintain relations with clients/customers.
Work with the Chief Operations Officer to ensure proper staffing and training is in place to support on-going operations of the organization.
Ensure all direct and indirect reports are trained on the risks presented to them in the performance of their duties and that training is documented.
Ensure safe work practices implemented to address above risks.
Ensure compliance of all employees with safety requirements, instructions and best work practices.
Supervise operations.
Manage, supervise and track all employees.
Maintain yard and department organization.
Train and direct department employees in proper use of equipment.
Order and purchases parts and equipment while working closely with company maintenance personal.
Provides training in the areas of safety equipment operations and material identification.
Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS____________________________________________________________
Five plus years’ experience of staff management, appraisal, development and planning.
Five plus years’ experience in the scrap metal industry is an asset
Must have effective written and verbal communication skills
Experience operating heavy equipment
Strong analytical and mathematical skills
Experience in cost-effective production and implementation of continuous improvement techniques
Must have excellent problem solving skills with the ability to find suitable solutions for productivity, environmental, safety-related, and employment issues.
