Reid’s J General Store - Cook
Reid’s is a family, well established Eatery in the Musquodoboit Valley area. We are looking for a skilled Cook to prepare delicious meals per menu. You will cook dishes that will delight our customers with their taste and timely delivery.
An excellent cook must be able to follow instructions in cooking and delivering well-prepared meals. They must be deft in moving around the kitchen and apt in multi-tasking. Experience in using various ingredients and cooking techniques is also important.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Clean food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, and utensils.
•Cook and package batches of food, such as hamburgers and fried chicken, which are prepared to order or kept warm until sold.
•Cook the exact number of items ordered by each customer, working on several different orders simultaneously.
•Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas.
•Measure ingredients required for specific food items being prepared.
•Operate large-volume cooking equipment such as grills, deep-fat fryers, or griddles.
•Pre-cook items such as bacon, to prepare them for later use.
•Prepare specialty foods such as pizzas, fish and chips, sandwiches, and tacos, following specific methods that usually require short preparation time.
•Read food order slips or receive verbal instructions as to food required by patron, and prepare and cook food per instructions.
•Verify that prepared food meets requirements for quality and quantity.
•Wash, cut, and prepare foods designated for cooking.
•Clean, stock, and restock workstations and display cases.
•Order and take delivery of supplies.
•Schedule activities and equipment use with managers, using information about daily menus to help coordinate cooking times.
•Cleaning all the kitchen equipment before and after use
•Should know the menu thoroughly and should be able to make each dish on the menu
•Coordinate with the other kitchen staff
•Report any mishaps in the kitchen
•Apply safety standards
Proven experience as cook
•Experience in using cutting tools, cookware and bakeware
•Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)
•Ability to follow all sanitation procedures
•Ability to work in a team
•Very good communication skills
•Excellent physical condition and stamina
•High school diploma or equivalent; Diploma from a culinary school will be an advantage
