Position profileManager Production The Manager Production is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of tracks, roadbed and right away, in accordance with the sound engineering practices and approved railway standards, specifications, procedures and budget and within the CN operating plan. The chosen individual will be managing work gangs of various sizes and multiple extra gang tasks. This position has the same responsibilities as the Manager Engineering, with a larger territory, more manpower (4-5 Program Supervisors, 150-200 indirect reports) and significantly larger budget to manage. This position is considered a developmental role prior to moving to the Sr. Manager Engineering position. Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership to Program Supervisors and hourly Maintenance of Way (MOW) employees, providing clear direction on employee performance and department goals and objectives.

  • Provides coaching/counseling to subordinates who are not performing to established goals and standards, as well as responding to and resolving grievances.

  • Builds safety compliance and improves safety results through regular efficiency testing and safety walkabouts; provides positive and constructive feedback and coaching

  • Executes capital program requirements, analyzes and interprets track geometry and rail flaw detection reports to identify conditions requiring action to meet Engineering Track Standards

  • Manages activities related to derailments and disruptions in service, while working with transportation and mechanical to determine cause and future prevention

Skills/Functional Knowledge Required for the Role

  • Comprehensive knowledge of track structure, construction and maintenance and identifying track defects

  • Operating Rules qualified

  • Strong knowledge of Engineering track standards and operating measures

  • Basic understanding of applicable collective agreements

  • Solid computer skills: especially working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word specifically), TIS, SAP, TMDS

Education and Experience Required:

  • Minimum 10 years of railroad experience, with 6 years of track experience

  • 5+ years of supervisory experience

  • Completion of High School Diploma or GED

  • Engineering Degree preferred
