Nova Scotia Works - Windsor Avon Region Community Development Association Job Title: Career Practitioner (Case Manager) Reports To: Executive Director Status: Full-time, contract as per funding agreements
Purpose of The Position
The Career Practitioner provides assistance, counsel and information to clients on all aspects of employment search and career planning. The Career Practitioner is responsible for helping clients secure sustainable employment through the development of individual “Return to Work Action Plans”.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Career Practitioner provides service to all clients with the goal of increasing their employability. He/she will conduct assessments and will case manage clients to achieve an outcome where the client becomes employed, self-employed or returns to school.
The Career Practitioner will facilitate client and staff training workshops as required by the contract and as dictated by labour market needs. He/she must keep appropriate case records and documents and report on caseload when requested. He/she must also ensure that all business and operations are conducted in a responsible, confidential and ethical way. All work is guided by the Nova Scotia Career Development Practitioner Core Competency Profile and the policies of the Avon Region Community Development Association.
1. Client Service Delivery
Conduct client needs assessment; identify barriers to employment; develop an action plan to address barriers; monitor and evaluate plan; adjust as needed; provide follow-up and support
Provide information on all services offered and provide referrals to appropriate contacts and services
Provide information to clients on aspects of employment search and career planning
Interview clients to obtain employment history, educational background and career goals
Assess need for specific assistance such as financial aid or further training and refer clients to the appropriate services
Write all pertinent applications to obtain client funding
Prepare client action plans and subsequent progress reports
Update LaMPSS records as required, maintenance
Contact clients (BF)
Compile monthly stats required as per funding contract
Respond to inquiries re client records as appropriate
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
Working knowledge of career development theory and applications
Ability to define and manage career and personal development goals and transition
Adherence to inclusionary practice, ethical decision making, and respect for diversity
Solid understanding of assessment processes, tools and resources
Knowledge of barriers facing persons with disabilities
Evaluation of client abilities, achievements and personalities through the use of standardized testing protocols and instruments
Ability to gather data, compile and evaluate information and prepare reports

The Career Practitioner would be certified, in the process of obtaining certification, or willing to move forward with certification, with The Nova Scotia Career Development Association, as a Certified Career Development Practitioner.
The Career Practitioner would normally attain the required knowledge, skills and abilities through completion of a post-secondary program combined with several years of related experience in a like environment. Equivalencies may be considered.
