The Day & Ross Transportation Group is currently seeking a full-time Driver Safety Supervisor in Dartmouth, NS.
As the Driver Safety Supervisor (DSS) you will facilitate driver safety education & remedial training programs. You will be required to identify unsafe habits and behaviors and coordinate solutions to lesson or eliminate future non-compliance or unsafe actions. Interpersonal skills are required to communicate effectively with individuals or groups on subjects such as safety training, proper operation of commercial equipment, local laws, and federal compliance standards.
To be successful in this role, you will effectively complete the following (not an exhaustive list of responsibilities):
Establish regular meetings with all drivers.
Meet targets as per safety policies, driver attendance to safety meetings and accident costs.
Maintain driver and supervisory personnel adherence to legislated safety laws.
Be able to travel between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland for company business as needed.
Help create safety training materials to facilitate education of safety legislation.
Maintain and update data input on multiple PC programs.
Effectively maintain professional attitude and be a source of solutions or guidance for all driver safety issues.
Must be able to work in all weather conditions year round as needed.
“Off hours” outside normal 8:00 to 5:00 will be required depending on business needs
Be able to communicate to individual / groups in a classroom setting and set up / use education tools as required, i.e. Laptop, LCD projector, create handouts, maintain decorum, gain feedback and track progress.
Facilitate LCV training
To be qualified for this role, please ensure your resume clearly displays some or all of the following :
Training certifications and a minimum of five (5) years of progressive training /supervising experience with an adult education base in relation to all aspects of being a commercial driver
Complete understanding of National Safety Code of Canada (NSC), Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations, Hours of Service Regulations and any other required government safety legislations
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
Bilingual, French/English, is an asset
Strong computer skills, including MS Office
Commercial Driver’s License (Class 1) with a clean record is considered an asset
The working environment can include long periods of sitting at a desk and data imputing, exposure to warehouse environment, travel when required, and walking in and around terminals regularly while meeting with drivers at switch points and various off site locations in all seasons.
