Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the permanent position of Community Recreation Coordinator (CRC) with Parks and Recreation. This position is located in the community of Eastern Passage, Halifax Regional Municipality.
The CRC is responsible for the delivery of recreation programs which will include the development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of seasonal recreation programs; managing a team of seasonal casual staff; coordination of a municipal recreation programs offered in the Eastern Passage area; development and implementation of seasonal special events; development of promotional recreation materials, participation in unit and divisional projects, and managing risk for the safe delivery of recreation services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the delivery of Recreation Services within Eastern Passage area and surrounding communities;
Manage recreation administrative processes to support the delivery of recreation services;
Recruit, train, evaluate and where applicable, make recommendations to Area Coordinator on disciplinary action;
Prepare marketing, promotional materials relating to the delivery of recreation programs and services;
Ensure the delivery of Recreation Services are in compliance with occupational health and safety, and WHMIS guidelines;
Mitigate risks associated with the delivery of recreation services;
Provide quality customer service and safe guard municipal assets;
Manage resources appropriately and allocated budget resources effectively.
Support location recreation based community development initiatives
Education and Experience:
Recreation Management Degree or suitable combination of training and progressive management experience in a municipal recreation setting may be considered.
Minimum 5 years progressive management experience in a municipal recreation delivery system
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
Demonstrated understanding of youth engagement and community development principals
Demonstrated experience and understanding of the High Five Quality Assurance System considered an asset
Demonstrated experience and understanding of Human Resource Principles
Demonstrated understanding of recreation and physical activity trends
Proficient in software/technology relevant to business Unit (i.e. Class for Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, Outlook, SAP)
Security Clearance Requirements: Must be able to successfully complete a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.

WORK STATUS: Full time, permanent
HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 35 hours per week, flexibility required to work evenings and weekends.
SALARY: Level 9 - $35.33 per hour as per the NSUPE 13 Collective Agreement
