Are You Interested in a Career at Irving Shipbuilding?
Women Unlimited, in partnership with Irving Shipbuilding, is launching a 14-week Career Exploration Program (CEP) at the NSCC Akerley Campus in March 2017. This CEP pilot program will highlight career paths for women, specifically in the metal trades … Welding and Metal Fabrication. Upon successful completion of this CEP, women may enter the NSCC Welding and Metal Fabrication 2-year diploma programs. As positions become available in 2019 and beyond, Irving Shipbuilding will be hiring successful graduates who meet their employment eligibility criteria.
Who should apply? You, if you are …
unemployed, underemployed or working less than 20 hours a week
not in school, community college or in a full-time adult-learning program
over eighteen years of age
entitled to work in Canada
someone who is interested in exploring careers in these metal trades
someone who has a grade 12 diploma or GED
available to attend 14-weeks of full-time programming
During the Career Exploration Program, you will:
explore careers in Welding and Metal Fabrication
discover training programs through hands-on workshops
engage with industry
strengthen your math and technical skills
gain certificates in First Aid & CPR, WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety
build a portfolio
On-going support and resources will help you:
access training in the metal trades
network with other women in these fields
connect with industry
build an on-going support system as you learn and work in these fields
address challenges like childcare and transportation
There are 20 seats available for diverse women who are interested in studying and working in the metal trades. There is an application, interview and assessment process to ensure the candidates with the most potential to succeed are chosen. Applications will be reviewed for selection in February and all applicants will be contacted at the end of the process.
