Position available: Prep Woodworking Assistant
(Temporary with the possibility of leading to a permanent position.)

What we offer: Excellent hours of work - 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8:00-4:00 with free parking available onsite. We are located on a good bus route. Training and support will be provided.

Reporting to the Production Manager of LakeCity Woodworkers, you will be part of a committed and client-centered team, assisting in the Finishing Department; you will also assist the instructors and support persons with a primary diagnosis of a mental illness and/or disability. You enjoy helping others, working with people and get along easily with others. You will also work with onsite staff and program participants to achieve safe, effective and efficient operations and ensures all requirements are met in a timely fashion.
Skills and qualifications for the position:
Knowledge, education, skill set and previous experience in woodworking, construction/carpentry or equivalent combination considered an asset, but not required.
Must have an excellent attention to detail, precision and accuracy.Performs well under pressure.
Safety focused and have familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety policies and regulations.
Clear and effective communication, interpersonal, and decision making skills.
Interested and comfortable working with and supporting persons with disabilities and mental illness.
Ability to stand, bend, reach, and lift for long periods of time, with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. or greater.
Enthusiastic, punctual, reliable, dedicated, and committed to success.
Good mathematical abilities, with the ability to use and read a tape measure.
Excellent at building and maintaining positive working relationships at all levels.
Flexible and cooperative team player who works well both independently and within a team, and embraces new challenges and change.
Highly adaptable, you are also willing and interested in learning new skills, tasks, and information.
Takes direction well with demonstrated abilities in working positively and proactively with various personality styles in the workplace.
Other duties as required.
Preference may be given to those who can demonstrate the following:
Education and experience in woodworking, carpentry/construction or a related skilled trade.
Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities.
Prior experience in a social enterprise or a not for profit organization.Current WHMIS Certification.
