Veteran Family Services (VFS) reports to the Adult & Community Integration Supervisor. Veteran Family Services will be responsible for developing and coordinating the pilot veteran’s family program. This position is part of a pilot project to support medically released members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and their families for up to two years as they transition to civilian life. This is a three year term, pilot program position.
Create a welcoming, safe, non-judgmental, nurturing environment for veterans and their families;
Educate and make aware of the Military Family Services Program (MFSP) services to respond to the needs of medically releasing CAF Veterans and their families for two years from the date of release;
Provide or support the development of awareness sessions, briefings, and resources pertaining to change management and transitioning into a civilian community;
Conduct and/or refer group and individual education sessions to support the transition to civilian life;
Develop and maintain strong community partnerships with both civilian and military organizations and stake holders;
Collaborate on the coordination and provision of general information briefs for chain of command, CAF & Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) personnel, and CAF & VAC communities and community agencies and partners;
Identify and develop programs, policy and procedures as required;
Develop, coordinate and facilitate peer support for transitioning members and their families; and
Facilitate Entrepreneur’s Club.
Degree or certificate in social or family related services or equivalent education and experience;
Minimum of 5 years’ working in a social or family related services position;
First Aid Certified;
Superior planning, organizational and project management skills;
Previous experience working in a not for profit;
5 years’ experience developing, delivering and facilitating workshops/training
Self-starter with excellent problem solving skills;
Superior understanding of change and transitions;
Excellent communication, collaborating and networking skills;
Willingness to work flexible hours;
Superior awareness of community resources and agencies available to support veterans and their families;
Exceptional understanding of the unique challenges of the military lifestyle; and
Proficiency in French is an asset.
Start Date: ASAP – Three year (term) position
Salary: based upon an annual salary of $ 40, 000 plus benefits
