Research Assistant and Tour Guide


Fultz House Museum Position Title: Research Assistant (1) Tour Guide (1). Business Description: Community Museum. Hours: Contract Days Weekends Posting Closing Date: 17 June 2016.

Position Start Date: 27 June 2016. Location: Fultz House Museum, 33 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville. Salary: $10.70 per hour, plus vacation pay, 35 hours week .

Job Description/Duties: Tour Guide - Primary Duties: 1. Make visitors feel welcome and ensure that their experience and memories are positive by: a.Continuously adding to your knowledge and skills through the reading and researching of pertinent reference material; and b.Communicating clearly explaining the historical significance of the Museum, its contents and the property; 2. Ensure the security and safety of the Museum’s buildings, grounds and artifacts, as well as visitors and staff by: - Having basic knowledge about preventative conservation relating to the care and cleaning of the site and collection; - Knowing how to respond appropriately in everyday and emergency situations; - Monitoring the site and collection for losses, vandalism and damage; and - Identifying potential safety risks to visitors, staff and the collection and informing the appropriate people in a timely manner; and 3. Ensure the effective operation and integrity of the organization and site by: - Planning, learning and working as a team member; - Co-hosting Museum/Community functions and special events assisting in the planning, preparation, set-up and removal of displays and events; - Receiving and actioning telephone calls, faxes and, utilizing general computer knowledge, emails; - Participating in the cleaning of buildings and grounds as required; and - Performing other task as required.

Secondary Duties Fill in as Museum Research Assistant as required. Museum Research Assistant - Primary Duties 1. Assist in accessing archive resources, inventory verifying, and researching acquisitions, the provenance and conservation of heritage resources; 2. Assist in computer data entry and inventory control of archives and artifacts; 3. Respond to artifact and genealogy research requests from public inquiries, accessing information through document checks and online reference searches; 4. Collect and file data and other documentation that pertains to the community; 5. When possible, visit historical and non- historical sites in the community and interview local community residents to gather additional historical data, providing written documentation chronicling the results; 6. Qualifications: Criteria required for consideration - a student between 15 and 30 years old, who attended school full time last year and is returning full time next year, and is able to work weekdays and/or weekends end June to end August.
