Economic Development Officers (3) – Valley Regional Enterprise Network
The Valley Regional Enterprise Network – a partnership among Glooscap First Nation, Municipality of the County of Kings, Municipality of the District of West Hants, and the Towns of Berwick, Kentville, Middleton, Windsor and Wolfville – has a mandate to guide and navigate economic development in the region while providing support to businesses. On their behalf, we are seeking three Economic Development Officers (EDO) to help them achieve this mandate.
The primary purpose of the Economic Development Officer role is to identify and establish economic development opportunities in the region. One EDO will be responsible for business retention and expansion by actively targeting key businesses and assisting them with growth and expansion. Another EDO will be responsible for industry sector development by conducting research into growth industries and working with sector teams to facilitate overall growth in these identified industries. The third EDO will use a range of communication abilities – such as media relations, research, writing and social media – to promote the region to new and existing businesses as a good place to do business.
For each of these roles, you must have appropriate academic credentials in business, economic development or communications. Ideally, you have several years’ experience in business development or economic development. You have a solid track record working with a range of stakeholders including the business community, elected and appointed officials, staff and the community at large. A proactive, collaborative, and engaging approach to economic development is required, in addition to your excellent communication, financial and project management expertise.
You are familiar with the economic issues and challenges facing rural municipalities and understand best practices in economic development. You have a successful track record of accomplishments and possess well-developed personal characteristics including integrity, relationship building, communication, teamwork and planning.
These are one-year term positions with an opportunity for renewal at end of term. If one or more of these opportunities interests you, please forward your resume and a letter telling us your thoughts on economic opportunities in this region.
