Position profileDescription: This role is responsible for designing, installing, configuring, administering, tuning, and optimizing system software and related components to achieve high availability and performance of the various business applications supported. Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain system software in support of business processing requirements.

  • Assess, schedule and perform software installations of upgrades and patches to the system software.

  • Monitor and tune the system software to achieve optimum performance levels, efficiency and reliability

  • Define and implement backup schedules and archiving solutions

  • Diagnose and resolve system software problems

  • Establish, and ensure compliance to, operating procedures for system software

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive system software configuration database/library of all supporting documentation.

  • Ensure appropriate level of technology, operating system and system software currency for existing and future business needs.

  • Define implementation plan details, as they relate to system software components

  • Apply, and ensure compliance with, all appropriate CN IT standards (eg. Security, Architecture, Project Delivery Methodology, SOX, etc.)

Key Deliverables:

  • System software availability and performance

  • Backup and archiving schedule

  • System software documentation

  • Forecasts of system software usage and growth

  • Operating procedures

  • System software performance report

Skill Set:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a Technical Support environment

  • Knowledge of Integration System Software (such as WebSphere Message Broker, Data Power, webMethods and or MQSeries) and it's features and High Availability techniques

  • Strong working knowledge of technical support of System Software, recovery techniques, trouble-shooting, performance monitoring and tuning(preferably using Wily or Tivoli), operating system utilities and other related tools

  • Knowledge of Application Programming techniques used with these technologies

  • Strong knowledge and experience in Midrange(AIX) concepts

  • Experience in designing, implementing and supporting large scale systems

  • Effective human resources skills as well as teamwork oriented leadership experience and excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of Computer Operations and internal procedures, policies, and standards.
