Position profileDescription: The Network Operations Engineer is a highly technical position. The candidate will be responsible for CN's entire Telecom network infrastructure offering operational engineering, device deployment, protocol implementations and 3rd level technical support at the Core and Distribution layers. The candidate must clearly understand the business requirements of a 7/24 rail transport environment where safety and reliability are mission critical and propose solutions to that effect. CN's network offers great challenges:
Spans over North America (Canada and United States).
Is composed of all types of communications media (fibre/copper/wireless/cell/microwave/MPLS/etc).
Is currently changing its core to MPLS.
Is preparing to modify its QOS settings to integrate VoIP, RoIP and video.
Is composed of more than 3500 Cisco Routers/Switches
Will be growing to 500 Alcatel routers ( MPLS)
Is Composed of more than 90 Juniper firewalls.
CN is looking for a self-starter who can rapidly analyze situations, and decisively take justifiable actions. Some travel may be required. Key Responsibilities:
Core device deployments and support
Incident / Problem / Vulnerability management
Lifecycle Management to all key Network connectivity services
Change Management , peer review to all Telecom Change Controls
Detail analysis and operation review of CN core Network Infrastructure
Perform Network Operational Audits , verifications to existing standards
Internal / External project involvement ( provide guidance and direction to proper transition to core to operations )
Plan and coordinate the implementation, testing and cutover of Telecom technologies into existing telecom infrastructure. This may include the guidance of field technicians .
Assist Disaster Recovery exercises
Provide 3rd Level support to pager roster ( 24/7) rotation basis
Mentor and coach peers
Cisco CCNP Certification or equivalent is an asset.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent. Telecommunications specialization preferred.
3-5 years of experience with IP networking and services (DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls, Cisco portfolio, network monitoring tools, WIFI, VoIP, MPLS, etc)
3-5 years experience with MPLS, RSVP-TE, QOS, BGP, MP-BGP, EIGRP, ISIS, and redistribution between routing protocols on Cisco
Experience and knowledge in design, operations and optimization of IP networks.
Experience in building business cases and providing estimates is an asset.
Good understanding of transport media (fiber, copper, wireless).
Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
