Practitioner Training Facilitator
Employment Opportunity: Practitioner Training Facilitator Literacy Nova Scotia (LNS) in Truro is seeking an experienced Facilitator to deliver the Nova Scotia Practitioner Training and Certification Program. This is a foundational program for adult literacy and essential skills practitioners, whether they are paid instructors or volunteer tutors, working in a classroom or one-to-one; it is for those who are new to teaching and tutoring, who want to work with adult learners, or for those who have experience teaching in the K-12 system or with second language learners and who want to transfer their skills to working with adult literacy and essential skills learners. There are nine modules in the program, plus a practicum assignment on session planning. One module, (“What’s Your Message? Relating to the Adult Learner”) is delivered in a workshop format, approximately five hours long. The other eight modules are delivered online and each takes four weeks for participants to complete. Each module includes an assignment, activities and discussions with other participants, and some activities with learners.
Literacy Nova Scotia is seeking a self-directed, flexible adult educator who can rolemodel sound adult literacy practices and philosophies, such as, learner empowerment, marking for confidence, and teaching transparency. This contract will finish out the current term ending March 31, 2016 and is anticipated to be renewed for the period of April 1, 2016 – March 31, 2017 (dependent on funding). 18 modules, orientation, and practicum are offered annually, with remuneration based on 30 hours per module. The actual modules offered will depend on demand and the facilitator will offer up to three in any given month. This contract position will involve some travel within the province and requires access to a computer that is updated regularly, has Microsoft Office, antivirus software, functioning audio/video capability and high speed internet. The facilitator will work closely with the IT Specialist and Registrar.
The Practitioner Training Facilitator will: (estimation of time required is included) - Provide facilitation for both online and face-to-face workshop including online correspondence (20 hrs per module, including prep and travel time for face to face workshop) - Give feedback and evaluation of assignments (4 hrs per module) - Check-in with participants via telephone, email or skype (2 hrs per module) - Hold weekly online office hours for interacting with participants (4 hrs per module) - Provide facilitation for the Orientation module (7 hrs) - Give feedback and evaluation of practicum assignments - Report regularly to the Registrar - Keep informed of updated resources and ensure web links are current - Role model best practices at all times and ensure the spirit of the training is upheld
Qualifications: - Must have a degree or a combination of relevant training and experience - Must have experience teaching adult literacy learners - Must have experience facilitating training programs - Must have experience with online facilitation - Must have knowledge of adult literacy programs in NS, including those offered through the Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning - Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Email - Familiarity with video-conferencing tools - Experience with Moodle courseware platform an asset Location: Flexible
