Position profileDuties: · Manage the daily operation of the geometry/joint bar hi-rail testing truck to ensure frequency objectives are met. This includes coordinating test schedules with the geometry supervisors operating the rail bound equipment. · Manage the performance of the system to optimize the information generated by the equipment. · Schedule the hi-rail geometry/joint bar truck to cover the CN network per CN and regulatory standards. · Provide feedback to the field personnel of exceptions found by the testing and joint bar equipment for immediate handling when required. · Submit testing files to the engineering technology group on a nightly basis for the information to be added to the track inspection system (TIS). · Other related tasks as assigned by supervisor. Working Conditions: · 100% field work (including air travel and driving; passport required) – traveling across North America; · Overnight travel required across the CN network, with multiple consecutive nights away from home · Long hours with significant time doing computer work and producing reports · Prolonged periods of sitting and operating computers when working with test equipment · Work schedule is generally ten days on, four days off, or a five day work week with extended hours; the hi-rail geometry/joint bar systems operate as much as practical, and it's possible to be called out incident sites as required to test on off days. · Need access to a major city/airport to be able to travel to and from the hi-rail equipment. Employment Requirements: · Prior experience in track maintenance, including basic knowledge of track components. · Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. · Valid Drivers License and Passport. · Successful candidate will be required to pass all required rules training, including but not limited to, Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR), United States Operating Rules (USOR), Qualification Standards for Operating Crews (QSOC), On Track Safety (OTS), dangerous goods, TEST car operations (Image Map and Ensco systems) · Able to support yourself for travel expenses during extended over night stays in multiple week trips; travel expenses on company business will be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis. Preferred: · Sound knowledge of railroad operations · Previous supervisor/management experience · 5+ years working for Class One railroad in engineering or track capacity · Strong desire to add value to the operation · Strong analytical skills with unwavering commitment to safe operations and customer service
