The Halifax & Region Military Family Resource Centre (H&R MFRC) a registered charity that provides quality programs and services to military families. The PSI Social Worker reports directly to the PSI Team Leader. This position is responsible to support a multi-disciplinary team in delivering standardized, consistent care, service and support to CF families and for developing and implementing preventative programs, crisis intervention and support services. This includes assessment and referral, group work, education and prevention information sessions, workshops and networking with community resources.

Sensitivity and tact in dealing with people under stressful conditions
Must be able work flexible hours, evenings and weekends
Provide screening and assessment of all requests for assistance to determine which program or service best responds to the client request
Refer clients to appropriate professional and community services
Provide consultative/assessment, support and referral services to clients requiring short-term support
Identify, develop and implement education, prevention and intervention programs
Participate as required in the education and training of MFRC staff
Work closely with the F.I.R.S. Team and PSI colleagues to facilitate the referral process
Liaise with Emergency Child Care in the provision of emergency childcare
Provide educative and preventive programs in collaboration with staff in the field of interpersonal relationships, family violence, and general health / lifestyle stressors
Qualifications
A degree in social work, must hold membership within the provincial professional association and professional liability insurance.
3 –5 years work experience with intervention programs and working with families in crisis
Experience and knowledge with family violence
Understanding of unique military life-style issues and experience working with CF families. Including an understanding of MFRC programs and services
Understanding of and ability to use a strength based philosophy and approach.
English essential, French an asset.
Excellent knowledge of community resources, military, civilian/provincial agencies
Excellent public presentation skills, group facilitation and program development skills

Salary: based upon an annual salary of $50,000
