Established in 1994, the Bedford-Sackville Learning Network is a community-based, non-profit organization that provides FREE classroom and one-to-one tutoring programs to adults who are 19 years of age or older.
Using the Adult Learning Program (ALP) curriculum, a qualified instructor will deliver Level 2 (grade 7-8-9) ALP daytime classroom instruction and essential skills training to adult learners.
Using the required General Educational Development (GED) curriculum, a qualified instructor will deliver GED daytime classroom instruction and essential skills training to adult learners.
Location: Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia
Work Setting: Classroom Group (8 – 10 adult learners)
Contract Position: 29 hours per week of instruction and 7.5 hours of preparation; Total of 36.5 paid hours per week.
Start Date: September 14, 2015
End Date: May 27, 2016
Prepare and deliver instructional activities related to Level 2 and GED subject areas.
Use a variety of learning materials and resources in program delivery.
Use computer technology to support program delivery.
Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students.
Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.
Assign and grade class work, tests and assignments.
Provide appropriate feedback on work.
Bachelor of Education degree or higher from an accredited institution.
Knowledge of GED and Level 2 subject areas such as reading, writing, math, social studies and science.
Experience working with adults or relevant teaching experience.
Possesses strong oral and written communication skills.
Works independently with minimum direct supervision.
Displays effective multi-tasking and time management skills.
Computer skills should include a competent knowledge of the Internet/E-mail/MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Knowledge of Essential Skills: reading text, document use, writing, numeracy, oral communication, working with others, problem-solving, decision-making, critical thinking, computer use, continuous learning.
