Position profile Role: The Senior Supervisor Rail Grinding is responsible for the production and switch and crossing rail grinding operations in the United States and Canada for CN. Duties:
Develop schedules for all production and switch and crossing grinders and water protection trucks working on the CN network.
Develop rail grinding supervisor schedules to ensure each production and switch and crossing grinder has proper supervision.
Lead rail grinding supervisor team
Perform pre and post surveys of the grinding quality across the CN network.
Work with Engineering Field personnel on any grinding concerns or adjustments needed to ensure optimal rail conditions in the field.
Relieve for grinding supervisors during manpower shortages.
Conduct field visits to the grinders, including regular safety audits on each machine.
Mentor and coach grinding supervisors.
Review contractor invoices on a bi-weekly basis for accuracy prior to payment.
Work with contractor to ensure proper grind quality is being obtained from the machines.
Thorough understanding of grinding contracts to ensure proper application of the agreements.
Working Conditions:
Required to work on varying shifts to cover operations that run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year.
Normal work hours are during the day, but will vary depending on scheduling and when the grinders are working; this may include taking calls and/or working on weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays, and anytime during the day or night.
Work is primarily outdoors in varying types of environmental conditions (extreme cold to extreme heat).
Strong planning, organizing and communications skills.
Responsive to internal partners and external clients, with the ability to work under minimal supervision.
15% office/85% travel across the CN network in Canada and the United States.
Employment Requirements:
High School Diploma / GED
Advance knowledge of rail grinding.
Strong computer skills, with working knowledge of Microsoft package (MS Excel, Word and Outlook).
Must be able to travel in Canada and the United States using a valid passport.
Valid driver's license
Preferred:
Prior experience working for a railroad
Track inspection qualified
TIS trained and experienced
