Casual Child Care Coordinator


We are currently seeking a Casual Child Care Coordinator, based out of our Shearwater and Halifax Site. The Casual Child Care Coordinator is responsible for the administration, supervision and implementation of the casual child care program. This includes the management of emergency and respite child care services.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Manage and supervise weekday, night time and weekend casual child care as required;

  • Recruit, hire, supervise, coach casual child care staff; adhering to NS Labour Standards;

  • Assess family emergency situations and develop an appropriate plan;

  • Assist families in preparing child care plans for use in emergencies;

  • Create a welcoming, safe, non-judgmental, nurturing environment for all child and family programs;

  • Keep informed of developments and trends in the community and to be alert to the changing needs of children and families;

  • Act as an advocate in the community on behalf of military children and families;

  • Research new preventative programs/services to enhance current practices;

  • Develop, coordinate and facilitate new affordable and accessible programs for children, parents and families that are based upon demonstrated need through the center’s community assessment, requests from military family members, current trends and research;

  • Prepare budget and funding submissions and be accountable for the program budget and funding.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education (NS ECE Classification Level 2 or 3);

  • Extensive experience working with children and families;

  • Minimum 1-3 years Supervisory experience;

  • Diploma/certificate in Adult Education an asset;

  • Three years’ experience in program development facilitation and implementation;

  • Excellent knowledge of community resources available to children and families;

  • Superior group/workshop facilitation skills with children and families;

  • Excellent interpersonal and assessment skills;

  • Excellent communications skills, both written and oral;

  • Current first-aid and CPR certification and valid driver’s license;

  • Knowledge of the unique challenges of the military family lifestyle;

  • Proficiency in French an asset; and

  • Current Child Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Check.
